Newport is the site of the last large-scale armed uprising in Britain. The Newport rising in 1839 was lead by the chartists, who were trying to free their comrades who were being held in Newport prison.

The M4 motorway is within a mile of Newport city centre and several main A and B roads are within easy reach.
