History of Hedsor House: References to the Manor of Hedsor can be found from 1166 when the Estate was owned by the de Hedsor Family. Various owners resided here until the estate was acquired in 1764 by William Lord Boston, equerry to the Prince of Wales who was living at Cliveden. In 1775 Frederick, 2nd Lord Boston designed a new house with the help of King George 3rd and Queen Charlotte who were close friends and frequent visitors to Hedsor Lodge as it is then described in prints at that time. This house was badly damaged by fire in 1795 and eventually demolished in 1865. A new house completed in 1868 and, unusually, modelled on the Italian Villa style but with a domed hallway rather than an open courtyard. Hedsor House remained as the Boston's magnificent stately home until the early 20th century. Queen Victoria was said to be a frequent visitor to the house and it's beautiful surrounding parkland.
