LANE END CONFERENCE CENTRE ENTERS 50TH YEAR ON A HIGH

We’re proud to announce that we’ve started Lane End Conference Centre’s 50th year in business on a high.

Our venue – the UK’s first purpose-built conference centre - finished 2018 celebrating a 69 percent increase in referrals and a five percent increase in revenue.

Now, our team is gearing up to mark Lane End’s Golden Anniversary milestone with a year-long programme of showcase events and celebrations with our customers, agents and staff.

Mike Gough, director of operations, said: “We’re extremely proud to be celebrating our 50th anniversary – an impressive milestone in the history of our business.

“The industry has changed so much in the last half-a-century, with huge enhancements in technology and the wants and needs of delegates evolving dramatically, from how they want to book conference and events space through to the extra touches that make their experience special.

“At Lane End we pride ourselves on being ahead of the game when it comes to what our customers want and that’s been evident in our 2018 achievements.

“Last year saw us attract repeat business from 72 percent of our customer base – an increase on the previous year and great recognition of the work our team puts into delivering top quality conferences and events.”

Lane End Conference Centre first opened in 1969 as the ‘Wycombe Centre for Management Studies’.

The site initially comprised of two buildings – Wycombe Hall and Wycombe Court – before expanding in 1979 to open Wycombe Lodge – the largest and most private residential building.

Over the decades the property has expanded further to offer amenities including a nine-hole golf complex, a sports complex, a 140m2 outdoor team-building area and fitness trail.

In the 1990s, it became the first venue to install specialised large projectors in its training rooms.

And, following a rebrand in 2005 and major refurbishment work in 2011, the site now houses 32 conference spaces and meeting rooms, as well as 111 en-suite bedrooms.

This year, the team is set to roll out a year-long programme of activities and events in recognition of the venue’s Golden Anniversary year.

Mike added: “We’ve changed dramatically as a venue over the years and so, having reached our Golden Anniversary in business, we’re looking forward to marking this milestone by bringing together our customers, agents and employees.

“It’s a great chance to reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead at what the future could hold for the meetings and events industry.”

HENI FOURIE ELECTED TO IACC EUROPEAN BOARD

Having embodied this statement throughout his years of service to Lane End, we couldn’t be prouder to announce that our very own Director of Sales and Marketing, Heni Fourie, has been elected to the IACC European board of directors.

Heni has worked tirelessly to improve the conference experience at Lane End, and build its reputation and brand - elevating it to become one of the highest rated conference venues in the UK. In a recent customer survey 95% of people said they would recommend Lane End to a colleague. He is fully deserving of the recognition for all of his many efforts, and we wish him the best of luck with his new responsibilities in delivering the IACC’s mission and values.

Heni will be one of two new directors joining the board, the other being Gail Tomlinson-Short from Warwick Conferences, with both of them joining alongside three members re-elected for this coming year.

LANE END TEAM GATHERS TO MARK INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2019

The team at Lane End gathered today to mark International Women’s Day 2019.

Our inspirational Chairperson, Teruko Iwanaga OBE, hosted a special drinks reception for all of our female employees.

More than 25 of our female members of staff enjoyed Afternoon Tea, a Prosecco and Gin bar and goody bags, while listening to Teruko share some valuable insights and inspiration from her years of experience as a successful woman in business.

In a recent blog post Teruko wrote for Lane End, she offered words of advice for women in business: “If you are confident in what you are doing and work hard, anything is achievable,’.
Female workers are extremely important to the success of the business at Lane End, representing 67% of the team, some 80 percent of the conference organisers who we deal with on a day to day basis are also female.

As well as a social event for our employees and an opportunity for our staff to network in a relaxed environment, today’s drinks reception also provided us with the chance to say thank you to our team and to Teruko for all of her hard work and dedication to Lane End Conference Centre.
HEALTHCARE EVENTS FORUM 2019

Lane End Conference Centre was proud to attend the 2019 Healthcare Events Forum recently, in Malmö, Sweden.

In his latest blog, Heni Fourie - Sales and Marketing Director at Lane End Conference Centre, reflects on the three-day event.

The Healthcare Events Forum was held on 12 – 14th February at the Clarion Hotel & Congress Malmö Live - one of Europe’s leading specialist healthcare event venues.

The first of its kind, the Healthcare Events Forum provided a new space for healthcare events professionals to meet, connect and learn.

The aim of the Healthcare Events Forum was to challenge, educate, and provide insight into this constantly evolving industry.

Lane End Conference Centre is a healthcare accredited venue and so we were delighted to attend the event after being invited as a key supplier.

The event afforded us the opportunity to make over 20 new contacts, most of them across Europe and America.

It was positive to hear many of these agents and corporate buyers expressing a strong interest in the UK as a destination for Healthcare Events.

Lane End Conference Centre provides a dedicated environment for healthcare events and is well suited for both internal and external healthcare events of up to 150 attendees.

INDUSTRY EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE
Over the three-day event, we gained industry insight from many leading healthcare experts. Specialist healthcare meetings and communication experts analysed future trends in the industry, explored different engagement tools, and discussed how the industry is addressing the needs in order to deliver tangible ROI metrics for events.

Len Starnes, a leading figure in the digital healthcare space, delivered the keynote speech.
In his keynote address, Len tackled the big questions surrounding the future of healthcare events, and asked how HCP behaviour, technology, medical societies, and disruptive new players will impact the healthcare events industry over the next few years.

Further educational content was delivered across 6 engaging and interactive workshops.
These sessions were led by a number of healthcare event experts who discussed future trends, best practice and shared their knowledge and experience of this complex industry.

All 200+ healthcare professionals in attendance were able to choose from a range of healthcare event focused topics including: ‘The Client, Agency and Supplier Triangle’; ‘ROO of Healthcare Meetings & Events’; and much more.

Stepping up to manage a new team can be a challenging business. You are likely to be pulled in multiple directions, have new goals to achieve and need to deal with an array of HR issues.

Here are four tips to help:

• Be a team player ­ It’s a phrase that’s bandied around a lot but it’s true. Being a good team player is about pitching in alongside your team - rather than above them - and playing to each other’s strengths. As well helping your team gel, team members will respect you more if you’re getting your hands dirty too.

• Delegation’s what you need ­ To avoid ending up doing all the work yourself or lumping the workload onto one or two team members, effective delegation is critical. Distribute work evenly and communicate clearly what is expected and how an individual’s task relates to the big picture.

• Invest in your team ­ If a team member is keen to learn something new, or try a new way of working, encourage them. Don’t be afraid to blow budget on appropriate training and development. Fresh skills will benefit the individual, your team and, ultimately, help your business area progress.

• Get to know your team ­ Take time to get to know your team as individuals. As well as making them feel valued, it’s important to find out everyone’s strengths and long-term goals. Arrange a regular night or fun ice-breaking team building activities.

Make Your Own Pizza | Team Activity - £49 + VAT per guest

Are you looking for something different? This is a perfect team activity facilitated in a relaxed and fun environment. The activity serves as a great ice-breaker for new teams and can strengthen working relationships in existing teams.

The activity takes place on the Pavilion terrace with a wood fired Neapolitan Pizza oven and lovely views of the grounds.

Lane End Conference Centre has upgraded its existing suite of projectors with new state-of-the-art LCD data projection systems.

A leading location for conferences and live events, the popular Bucks training centre has replaced projectors in four of its principal training rooms - accommodating around 90 people each ­ with innovative Christie LW401 data projectors.

As well as easy to use, the new high-performance projectors deliver razor sharp images and graphics, perfect for professional-level PowerPoint presentations.

New Refurbishments At Lane End Conference Centre

Lane End Conference Centre is embarking on a new round of refurbishments to further enhance the quality experience for delegates.

Wycombe Lodge - one of five self-contained buildings at the popular UK conference centre - is to undergo a major makeover that will include new larger dining facilities.

The refurbished dining room will lead into a new large conservatory with a purpose-built buffet area, comfy sofas and patio doors opening on to a large terrace - perfect for enjoying a relaxing drink while taking in the views across the centre’s golf course.

New ceilings, flooring, walls and furniture will match the design and feel of the newly refurbished dining room in the centre’s nearby Wycombe Hall building.

All the bedrooms in Wycombe Lodge will receive a full refurbishment including structural changes to improve natural daylight.

Each room will have a new large patio door opening on to a small balcony. Rooms will also be fully air conditioned. Other improvements to the lodge bedrooms will include:

full-sized double beds to replace the four foot beds
brand new bathrooms
new fresh and comfy interiors.
Buckinghamshire-based Lane End’s Sales and Marketing Manager Heni Fourie said: “Part of our ethos of continual improvement is regular investment back into the venue to ensure our facilities continue to be of the highest standard - clean, modern, fresh and functional.

“This latest phase of our ongoing refurbishments will enhance Wycombe Lodge as a self-contained building with the very latest in residential conference facilities.

“Wycombe Lodge’s conference rooms for hire are already extremely well equipped but this new refurbishment will bring in the next generation of equipment.

“Delegates can expect modern en-suite bedrooms, a comfortable lounge, bar and a contemporary dining room - all available for exclusive hire,” he added.

Wycombe Lodge is the most self-contained of the five buildings at Lane End Conference Centre.

Like all the buildings at Lane End, Wycombe Lodge can be booked for exclusive use - offering delegates maximum privacy for optimum productivity.

Wycombe Lodge offers delegates:

one main and one medium-sized conference room
five smaller conference meeting rooms
dining room, bar and lounge
35 en-suite bedrooms.
Refurbishment work has being carefully scheduled to avoid disturbing delegates attending events in Lane End’s other conference buildings.

Work on the bedrooms will be carried out in five-week phases, starting on Monday June 17th and concluding in November.

Refurbishment of the dining room at Wycombe Lodge is due to start at the end of July and take around a month.

The latest refurbishments follow an ambitious programme of work completed at Lane End last June with the launch of a new boardroom that can be hired for senior executive meetings or private dining events.

Work included free high speed broadband (up to 100MB) plus new bistro dining facilities for Wycombe Hall.

The team also carried out structural work to give Wycombe Court bigger windows and higher ceilings to let in more natural daylight and give delegates even better views of the 26-acre landscaped grounds.

Lane Conference Centre is based in a stunning countryside location just an hour’s drive from the centre of London. It is easily accessible via fast motorway and dual carriageway links.

Unlike other conference centres, Lane End offers free superfast broadband and plenty of free parking.

The centre hosts a wide range of events, ranging from conferences, training, reception days and retreats to team building challenges such as motorised beer kegs, archery and chocolate making classes.
