Vince Johnson said, making such a change of the Great Hall wasn’t our initial plan though once we looked at changing one or two items it became apparent it would become a large scale project that had to be completed on a very tight timescale. There were numerous condition issues which we couldn’t avoid and the project grew into something more all encompassing as it went.

The Great Hall hosts over 100 events every year and is popular for all type of parties, from weddings to birthdays and anniversaries, charity nights and corporate events.

We sought to move from the heavily detailed and themed Medieval Hall concept to a scheme which was more in keeping with the age and grandeur of the property. The cleaner lined and brighter Renaissance feel of the current decoration fits better with our late 17th and 18th Century heritage.

Rich velvet like fabrics and crystal and gilt chandeliers offset the large portraits sitting atop the original stone fireplaces and the original solid oak floor has been fully restored and brought back slightly lighter than before.

We’re excited to show the room to new clients and old and it signals the commencement of our long term investment plans with much more to follow. The cost of this element of the project is in excess of £100k.

Cairn Group Launches Hotel Portfolio, The Cairn Collection

Newcastle-based Cairn Group today announced it has launched The Cairn Collection; a hand-picked selection of historic hotels in iconic locations across the UK. The 10-strong collection of signature properties covers all four corners of mainland UK, from Stirling in the Scottish Highlands, to Brighton on the south coast of England.

Hotels have been selected for inclusion within the collection based on a number of criteria, including the historic design and fabric of the buildings themselves; their locations in iconic British towns and cities as well as the service offered by each hotel’s team.

Many hotels within the group feature restaurants and bars, such as The Redworth Hall Hotel’s 1744 restaurant, which serves modern British dishes in period surroundings, or the Scholars Restaurant at Stirling Highland Hotel, which uses seasonal, and where possible, locally sourced ingredients from the Highlands to combine British and European cuisines with traditional Scottish flavours. Meanwhile, a vibrant and contemporary vibe can be found at Asian fusion restaurant, Sohe, and innovative cocktail bar, 97 & Social, both at Cairn Hotel Newcastle.

The Newcastle-based Cairn Hotel Group has unveiled the stunning new Retreat Leisure Club & Spa at Redworth Hall Hotel following a £2m investment, marking the completion of the first phase of a massive refurbishment and development programme at this local landmark hotel.
The leisure and spa facilities have been totally reconfigured and transformed to create a dedicated spa with six luxurious treatment rooms (including two interconnecting rooms), a tranquillity room and spa reception with a unique foliage backdrop, as well as a stunning new L’Oreal hair & nail salon.

The Retreat’s collection of indulgent treatment rooms are bathed in soft light with a warm, peaceful ambience and guests can select from a huge array of individual head to toe treatments and therapies, using only the finest Decléor products, as well as an indulgent selection of Spa packages and residential breaks.

Complementing the new treatment rooms is the fabulous new tranquillity room. Subtly-lit and decorated in soft tones, it features luxurious Gharieni thermal loungers and guests can help themselves to refreshments and a range of lifestyle magazines that are available to browse. There is also a stunning new L’Oréal hair salon offering a full range of services and featuring two specialist ‘pedi-chairs’ where guests can enjoy a luxurious Jessica manicure or pedicure.
To facilitate the creation of the new spa, the existing gym was relocated to the first floor and is now an expansive, fully air-conditioned space featuring an array of Technogym equipment and an Omnium multi exercise rig. There is also a new purpose-built exercise studio featuring a state-of-the-art ‘Fitness on Demand’ virtual class system, offering over 2500 class options, alongside instructor-led classes. The Retreat facilities also include a 14-metre indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room.

Taking centre stage is ‘The Lounge’ serving a delicious all-day menu that includes freshly prepared smoothies, salads, wraps and light bites. Light and airy, the open plan space is a clever mix of sleek contours, smooth finishes and designer touches with marble floors, a stunning curved bar counter, featuring rich blue panelling and brass detailing, while a cherry tree illuminated by fairy lights is another distinguishing feature.

WEDDED BLISS AT REDWORTH HALL HOTEL’S NEW-LOOK GREAT HALL

Grand country house Redworth Hall Hotel has undergone an impressive transformation of its Great Hall just in time for summer brides-to-be to say ‘I do’.

Dating back to the 17th Century, the striking property can be found in County Durham surrounded by peaceful grounds, yet a short distance from the buzz of the nearby city centre.

Owned by premium hotel group Cairn Group, the historic hall has been sympathetically renovated to restore its former glory and enhance its offering as a stunning weddings and events space.

Elegant changes include refreshed décor from floor to ceiling with decorative wall panels and traditional wallpaper together with luxurious feature curtains lit by beautiful crystal and gilt chandeliers.
