The hotel is on the north side of Hyde Park about one mile from Marble Arch which is where you will find London's premier shops on Oxford Street and Bond Street. This then leads you to the theatres and the other main tourist attractions of London. Three Bus Routes and two Underground Stations give easy access to all parts of the city. Paddington Mainline Station with the Heathrow Airport Express Link is a five minutes walk. Limited free car parking spaces are available for hotel guests on a first come first served basis, and the M40 Motorway giving access to the M25 London Orbital Motorway and other routes can be reached by a simple five-minute drive. A short stroll away, Queensway is a bustling cosmopolitan thoroughfare with diverse restaurants, cafes, shops, pubs, cinemas and multi-storey shopping centre. In contrast, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens facing the hotel are large almost rural areas of peace and quiet in the middle of the city. The Columbia Hotel was originally five large Victorian town houses. Professional people, merchants and aristocracy occupied the houses with their families and servants. With large rooms, balconies and contemporary decorative features, the houses were highly valued by the rich and successful. During World War I one of the houses was an American Red Cross Hospital, and after the war the five houses became The Palace Hotel. Renamed The Columbia Hotel in 1975, a continuous programme of renovation and improvement aims to offer modern day requirements, whilst retaining the character of the original Victorian-buildings. The hotel has an elegant lounge, cocktail bar and the large breakfast room facilitates service. The reception desk is staffed 24 hours a day. At the desk guests may obtain laundry/dry cleaning service, taxis, security for their valuables, free overnight luggage storage, newspapers, maps of the city, brochures for sightseeing tours and leading attractions. The hotel lounge and cocktail bar are free wireless broadband hotspots for your laptop computers. The Columbia restaurant which can seat up to 120 guests is a superb venue for private parties and dinner dances. The Windsor Suite is the largest, with a separate reception area. The Windor Suite will seat 200 Theatre Style, 80 Classroom Style, and accommodate up to 300 for buffet Receptions. The Viceroy & Regency Suites are identical, and can be used independently, or joined together as one unit. Each will seat 70 Theatre Style. All three suites are on the first floor with wide balconies overlooking Kensington Gardens. The Lancaster Suite on the hotel ground floor has a large mahogany table to seat up to 28 persons, and a comfortable lounge area, making it ideal for Boardroom style meetings. The first floor Conference Suites are wireless broadband hot-spots for your laptop computers.
