David Cameron visits Eynsham Hall
David Cameron celebrates the visitor economy with Experience Oxfordshire at Eynsham Hall’s Grand Unveiling

Today marked the first Experience Oxfordshire networking event of 2016. Held at Eynsham Hall, there were over 150 local businesses and organisations in attendance as well as the Rt Hon David Cameron, Prime Minister and MP for Witney.

The informal event offered Experience Oxfordshire partners a chance to meet other business from across the visitor economy sector and network, as well as well as an opportunity to catch up with the Experience Oxfordshire team. The event was also the grand unveiling of Eynsham Hall’s £2.5million refurbishment to the local industry.

After speaking to the invited audience Mr Cameron did a walk around taking the opportunity to speak with many of Experience Oxfordshire’s Partners and local businesses and also presenting B4’s Richard and Colin Rosser a celebratory certificate on behalf of Experience Oxfordshire congratulating them on their 10 years in business.

The event is part of a series of annual events and programme’s that Experience Oxfordshire runs for their partners.

On the event David Cameron MP said:

“It has been a pleasure to attend today’s event here at the stunning, newly refurbished Eynsham Hall and to speak with local businesses. I am passionate about the tourism sector – as shown by the drive I have given to the government’s plans, including the excellent “Great” campaign – and I am extremely proud to see the sector doing so well here in Oxfordshire”.

“I was delighted to hear of Experience Oxfordshire’s plans for the future and to see true public and private sector collaboration. I would urge any business with an interest in the visitor economy to get involved with Experience Oxfordshire and the great things they are doing. I will watch how this further develops with much interest and my support for the sector remains strong”

Hayley Beer-Gamage, Chief Executive of Experience Oxfordshire added;

“This has been a fantastic start to the year to have the Prime Minister in attendance, showing how collaboration is key to success. At Experience Oxfordshire we are delighted to see so many of our Partners and Ambassador’s here today to celebrate with Eynsham Hall and make exciting plans for the year ahead. We are an ambitious organisation who are looking to engage and grow the visitor economy across Oxfordshire and we are delighted to be receiving so much support. We have only touched on some of the exciting plans for the year ahead today and there is much more to come!”

Shaun Bowles, the General Manager of Eynsham Hall who welcomed everyone to the event said:

“This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work recently completed at Eynsham Hall, especially the new main hall bedrooms which are a real credit to the hotel. It's also incredibly warming to receive such strong support from Experience Oxfordshire and fellow members”

Richard Rosser, Chief Executive of B4 said;

“We are tremendously proud to receive this award from Experience Oxfordshire and the Prime Minister to mark the 10th anniversary of B4 magazine. On the behalf of the team I’m delighted to receive this honour and recognition of our work.”

Eynsham Hall is located in North Leigh, near Witney in Oxfordshire.

Eynsham Hall Hotel in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds marks the New Year with the completion of an 18 month programme of refurbishment totalling £2.5m in investment. With a new lounge, main hall bedrooms and the introduction of The Brasserie, the work will make Eynsham Hall an increasingly popular choice for discerning boutique country house breaks.

Its rich, colourful and bohemian past is reinterpreted and repurposed with a nod to the Mason Family, the original owners. Fixtures and furnishings honour years gone by with William Morris prints and a homage to the Police Force heritage. The new Brasserie offers hearty modern food with dishes including smoked meats and fish, using a smoker much like the house would have used in the early 1900's.

B4 was launched in 2006 after Richard and Colin spotted an opportunity for a high quality local business magazine supporting a business networking organisation. B4 established a relatively speedy reputation for delivering not only a first class, readable magazine, but also excellent networking events in some of the county’s leading venues. Following the magazine and events, the B4 website was launched together with a strengthening social media profile.

The family business now employs four full time staff and publishes a number of titles including Living in Oxford Magazine, The Laurent Perrier Oxfordshire Restaurant Guide. The company also

has a design and print agency and stages two of Oxfordshire’s leading annual events – The Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards and Business in Oxford at Saïd Business School.
Opening of new Brasserie Resraurant
January 2016

Head chef Simon Bradley launches the menu at Eynsham Hall’s new brasserie.

The launch of The Brasserie at Eynsham Hall has been an amazing adventure to say the least. It’s been incredible working to create a menu and an experience for diners that reflects and represents the rich history of the hall.
The transformation of the space which is now our brand new restaurant has been amazing.
The Brasserie features bespoke banquette seating with industrial copper accents – a nod to the Mason family, who built the Hall in 1908 and made their fortune from copper mining.
The room manages to combine this heritage, with eclectic modern touches and splashes of colour to create an environment that’s truly unique – yet still very homely.
My job has been to create a menu where each dish tells a story; a blend of old and new. And to offer unrushed, seasonal British food while putting a distinctly “Eynsham” twist on everything we do.
We’re really lucky to live in Oxfordshire with so much incredible local produce on our doorstep.
We work closely with local producers and have a good idea of what is either coming into season, is in season, or is going out of season so, to a certain degree, the menus write themselves.
We have built up a good network of local suppliers for lots of our produce, and it is these strong relationships that allow us to have our produce at its freshest, and best.
Large houses like Eynsham Hall would originally have had a smoker, and I’ve overseen the re-introduction of a new smoker which has been really cleverly created from a modified American fridge.
We in the kitchen affectionately refer to her as Betty. It’s by mixing these older, traditional methods of cooking with more modern techniques of cooking food for longer at much lower temperatures, which has enabled us to mix things up a bit and keep the menu exciting.
For example, we buy in whole salmon, dry cure it and then oak smoke it.
We also use a water bath for cooking a lot of our meat. It allows me to have complete control over the cooking and gives a perfect end result every time.
For example we source our pork from Kelmscott Farm, about 15 miles away, in the Cotswolds. We use the bellies and soak them in a brine (which is another old way of preserving food), and them cook them at 60C for 30 hours.
The pork is chilled and pressed ready for service. Portions are then caramelised on our plancha grill and served.
The pork is amazing, tender, juicy and full of flavour, and a perfect example of how a mix of old and new methods can develop a unique and individual menu. It just needs the ground work to be put into place and time to build up a network of like-minded suppliers.

We’re formally launching the Brasserie in the New Year but we’ve soft-launched and started taking bookings in the last month. I’m delighted with the response. Feedback on the menu has been fantastic. The space was originally designed for entertaining and it feels humbling to be replicating traditions that the Mason family would have embraced.
It’s a turning point for the venue in terms of offering more to the community, and being able to support local farmers and businesses. We can’t wait to hear what people think.
