Like most towns in Britain Chester was founded by the Romans, and was one of the last cities to fall to the Norman invasion, and when it eventually did William the conqueror ordered the construction of a castle to control the town. The castle still stands within the city walls today. Chester is one of the best-preserved walled cities in Britain, with only a 100 metre section missing. In 2007 the Chester Renaissance project was launched which aims to make Chester a must see European destination.
The city is a hub for major roads, with it being connected to the A55 leading to north Wales and the A483 going to Wrexam and Swansea. Chester general station has 7 platforms(but originally it had 14), and recieves trains from cities like Liverpool and Swansea.
