Perth had been designated a city since time immemorial but in the 1990’s her majesty’s government examined the definition and omitted some cities, including Perth. Having lost its city status Perth decided to try and gain it back on its 800th anniversary in 2009 but was unsuccessful. For the queens diamond Jubilee in 2012 Perth decided to make another attempt for city status along with 26 other bidders. Perth’s request was granted and in March 2012 it became Scotland’s 7th city.

Perth is a key transport hub for journeys on road and rail within Scotland. The M90 connects the city to Edinburgh and the A9 connects t to Glasgow. Perth railway station has regular services to Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow. Whilst the city does have an airport it is private the nearest commercial airports are Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
