A Cathedral city in the Mendip district of Somerset, Wells is the smallest city in England which isn’t included in a metropolitan district; this quaint idyllic city only has a population of 10,000.
 
Whilst in Wells you must see the cathedral and it’s grounds, it’s claimed that Wells Cathedral is the only cathedral in England that still has a vicars close and bishops palace intact, the cathedral itself rises above the town and can be seen for miles, the most distinctive part is the ‘scissor arches’ this contemporary arch was built in 1300 to stabilise the structure when the heightened tower was added.
 
Wells holds a carnival every November; it’s a parade of illuminated floats, a sight not to be missed!
